How to take care of Remy Human Hair Extensions

Any extension lighter than color #3 will benefit from the below instructions.
Dark color extensions are less delicate because they have not been lightened much.

Taking care of blonde hair extensions requires a bit of extra attention due to their delicate nature and the potential for damage. All blonde extensions were originally dark brown and have been lightened making them susceptible to drying and damage. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you maintain your blonde extensions and keep them looking their best:

Washing and Conditioning

  1. Shampoo and Conditioner: Use a sulfate-free, moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. For blonde extensions, opt for products designed for dry or color-treated hair. Biolage Hydra Source Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner is a good choice. Avoid products with proteins or mineral oils as they can cause brittleness.
  2. Leave-In Conditioner: Apply a leave-in conditioner to the ends of the hair to maintain moisture and prevent tangling. This helps keep the hair soft and manageable.
  3. Wash once a month with a clarifying shampoo to prevent buildup of product.

Drying

  1. Air Dry: Whenever possible, let your hair extensions air dry. If you must use a hair dryer, set it to the lowest air speed and avoid using high heat.
  2. Avoid Blowouts: Blowouts can damage hair extensions. If you need to use a blow dryer, dry the hair completely before using any hot tools. Avoid using a round brush as it can pull and stretch the hair, leading to breakage and frizz.
  3. Flat Iron: If you want a straight look, blow dry the hair until it is completely dry, then use a flat iron set to no higher than 350 degrees. (too much heat will burn the hair and turn it orange) Do not use hot tools on damp hair, as this can cause significant damage.

Product Avoidance

  1. Protein Treatments: Avoid products with protein or bond-rebuilding treatments like Olaplex or Redken’s Acidic Bonding Concentrate. These can make blonde extension hair brittle and more prone to breakage.
  2. Stay away from shampoos containing sulfates and shampoos that volumize. Volumizing products can lift the cuticle of hair and cause tangling.
    1. Avoid spray tans and sunscreens on the extensions. These products can cause hair to turn orange/ pink.

    General Tips

    1. Brush Gently: Use a wide-tooth comb or a brush specifically designed for extensions to detangle the hair. Start from the ends and work your way up to avoid pulling and causing damage.
    2. Protect from Heat: Always use a heat protectant spray before using any hot tools. This will help minimize heat damage.
    3. Avoid Chlorine and Saltwater: Chlorine and saltwater can be very drying and damaging to hair extensions. If swimming, consider wearing a swim cap or applying a protective leave-in conditioner beforehand.
    4. Regular Maintenance: Schedule regular maintenance appointments with your stylist to ensure the extensions remain in good condition and are properly re-taped or re-bonded as needed.

By following these guidelines, you can keep your light blonde hair extensions looking vibrant and healthy for as long as possible.
