1. Clip-in Hair Extensions
Clip-in hair extensions are the least permanent style of extensions, you can quickly remove and put them back in. Clip-ins can be applied in a little as 5 -15 minutes at home. Clip-ins do the least amount of damage, they don’t involve any heat, chemicals, etc. They are the most affordable and easiest to install compared to other styles.
2. Tape-in Hair Extensions
Tape-in hair extensions are thin, tape wefts that get “sandwiched” together in between your hair. They don’t usually require tools. Tape-ins can last 8-12 weeks and be reused for up to three applications with proper care. They are applied by a hair stylist as there are steps involved that require practice, training, and precision. Installation can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1-2 hours. If applied incorrectly they can slip and or cause hair loss/damage. They require a special oil or alcohol-based solution for removal. They are the second most affordable option depending on length, texture, volume, and desired look.
3. Fusion/Keratin Hair Extensions
Keratin hair extensions are individual strands of extensions that are bonded with keratin to your hair. They are made from human hair strands with hardened keratin tips attached to the end of every strand. They are applied by a hair stylist as there are steps involved that require practice, training, and precision. Keratin extensions are attached to the natural hair by melting the keratin adhesive with heat using a special connector tool. Installation can take anywhere from 1-5 hours. If applied incorrectly they can slip and or cause hair loss/damage. They require a special alcohol-based solution for removal. They are the third most affordable option depending on length, texture volume, and desired look.
4. Invisible Beaded/ Sew-In Hair Extensions
Invisible beaded/sew-in row hair extensions are weft extensions that are applied by using micro rings, thread, sewing needle and pliers. Any type of wefted hair can be used (hand tied, machine tied, hybrid or genius weft). They are applied by a hair stylist as there are steps involved that require practice, training, and precision. These extensions are sewn into the micro rings/beads that have already been applied to your hair row by row. Installation can take anywhere from 1-5 hours. These sew-ins are reusable by simply cutting the thread, removing the beads and resewing them. They need to be “moved up” every 6-8 weeks. If applied properly sew-ins cause the least amount of damage. They require scissors and pliers for removal.
